Embracing Divine Love to Overcome Dark Times and Disappointment

“Love knows that nothing is ever needed but more love. It is what we all do with our hearts that affects others most deeply. It is not the movements of our body or the words within our minds that transmit love. We love from heart to heart.”

– Maharishi Mahesh Yogi

As I look back on my darkest times, I realise how much power they’ve held and how transformative they were. I’ve developed a sense of gratitude for them.

We've all been there - faced with disappointment, uncertainty, and what feels like an endless sea of hopelessness.

As we traverse the winding paths of life, pain is a natural companion that’ll surface when we feel out of control. Perhaps a precious dream didn't unfold as hoped, or a relationship ended, leaving you heartbroken. Maybe you’re facing setbacks in your career, health issues, grieving a loved one. In such moments, it's easy to succumb to despair, feeling lost, isolated, and consumed by negative thoughts.

It's as if the doors we thought open have slammed shut, leaving us feeling lost and trapped. It was in establishing a daily meditation practice that I found the key, maybe not to these closed doors, but to my heart.

And I became aware that even in these moments, when feeling at my lowest, love is the true compass to navigate the darkness - like a guiding torch walking through a dark and dingy tunnel.

Daily meditation has allowed me to open my heart to that light within. The one that cannot be dimmed by any external factors. This is what we call divine love.

Embracing that love requires a willingness to surrender our attachment to specific outcomes which are only a fabrication of our own ego - and accept that Nature knows best and works on her own divine timing. It means relinquishing the need to control every aspect of our lives and instead allowing that inner knowing, that love to guide our actions and decisions.

When we meet challenging moments with openness in our mind and heart, it invites our vulnerability to tenderly reveal itself. Our bodies then serve as gentle pathways for the embrace of divine love, casting moments of sorrow with a soft glow of grace.

This is what meditation does, it creates the space and adaptation levels to enable us to feel the pain fully, and still be able to see the spark emerging from it. The more you practice, the more it’ll snap you out of ‘victim consciousness’ embracing the famous Buddhist saying: “Pain is inevitable, suffering is optional”.

So rather than bypassing our emotions and pain, we learn to feel them fully without being overwhelmed or overly identified with the experience. We allow ourselves to feel it, sense it, acknowledge and accept the situation, giving rise to deep transformation and growth.

The Vedas, a timeless source of wisdom, along with Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, remind us that divine love is the supreme creative force establishing the entire universe. It is the essence that unites all beings, transcending the boundaries between us and these closed doors. When we align ourselves with this boundless source of love, we tap into a reservoir of strength, courage, and resilience that can help us navigate any storm.

During these challenging times, I've learned that it's crucial to maintain my meditation practice and rise above the mind's dismal murmurs of "what's the point?" From experience, I know that if I persist, a glimmer of light eventually pierces through, an acceptance that melts away any worries about what I thought should be, could be, or would be. And soon solutions, opportunities, and an obvious unfolding will come knocking at my door! That’s when clarity transcends the darkness.

Besides meditation, here are a few of the practices I also find most effective:

  • First and foremost, seeking support from any type of professional you resonate the most with: a therapist, an energy healer, a trusted mentor…

  • Engaging in selfless service, or karma yoga, has been a potent way to embody divine love for me. When we selflessly support others without expectation of reward (referred to as ‘punya’ in the Vedas), we become conduits for love to flow freely, nourishing both the giver and the receiver. The humility behind selfless service is deeply healing.

  • Surrounding ourselves with loving energy, whether through uplifting music, sacred spaces, or the company of kindred beings and community, is one of my favourite ways to stay anchored in the vibration of the unboundedness of the heart.

  • Connecting with nature, immersing ourselves in all its beauty; whether it's taking a walk in the park or grounding by the ocean, has the remarkable ability to align our vibrations with the frequency of love.
